Hamden Special Education PTA (SEPTA) brings together Special Education students, families, teachers, staff and the Hamden community to advocate for and support each other.
Over a decade ago, two very dedicated Hamden parents of former Alice Peck students saw a need for a PTA that included, supported, and lifted up all students with disabilities in Hamden over the course of their entire school careers. They founded Hamden Special Education Parent Teacher Association (SEPTA), an affiliate of our state (CT) and national Parent Teacher Associations.
SEPTA helps students with disabilities, their families, and other community allies connect, find support, and advocate. SEPTA also supports educators and professionals who work with children with disabilities in the school system – financially (by, for example, purchasing items for their classrooms), through advocacy, and with community support. In everything we do, SEPTA is committed to ensuring that the diverse voices of our community are listened to, represented, and included and to working against structural barriers to full inclusion.
